Managing Director and Chief China Representative

Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic Managing Director to act as our Chief China Representative based in Beijing and to lead our Network of 13 Representative Offices across China.

You will provide leadership and direction to our government engagement and wider public affairs work in China, representing CBBC at the highest levels of business and government. You will design and implement a proactive programme of engagement with key Chinese stakeholders at national, provincial and municipal level. You will drive engagement with CBBC’s members across China, working closely with CBBC sector experts. You will help to shape CBBC’s approach to leading policy issues of the day, including market access, intellectual property rights and major government programmes such as the Belt and Road Initiative, Made in China and the Greater Bay Area.

The role will require regular travel throughout China and occasionally to the UK, some public speaking in both English and Chinese, and some media work to promote CBBC’s reputation for excellence in China.

You will report directly to the CBBC Group Chief Executive. You will be a member of the CBBC Executive Committee and attend meetings of the CBBC Board, thus helping to shape the overall direction of CBBC. Within China you will work with two Beijing-based Senior Directors of CBBC’s Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE) to ensure strategic coherence between your Network of Representative Offices and CBBC’s wider commercial operations.
Job Requirement
This is a high profile role in a complex environment demanding resilience, strong self-motivation, good self-management, well developed interpersonal skills and active listening. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with a proven ability to influence and to negotiate, excellent analytical skills and an inclusive, progressive approach to management.
Specific requirements for this role are:

Substantial and recent China business experience
Substantial experience of staff management in China
Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by UK businesses trading with and investing in China
The ability to perform confidently and persuasively with senior interlocutors
Excellent presentation skills
Financial literacy
Fluent English and Advanced Chinese (HSK-5, CEFRL-C1 or equivalent)
