Foreign Teacher

Located in Hohhot city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia University of Technology grew out of the former Suiyuan Higher Technical School. In 1958, with the support from Tsinghua University, Inner Mongolia Engineering College was founded, which was under the direct administration of the Ministry of Mechanical Industry and the Ministry of Agricultural Machinery. Since 1983, the college has been subordinate to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1993, the college was upgraded into Inner Mongolia University of Technology. Occupying an area of 3,178 Mu (212 hectares), the university consists of three campuses: Xincheng Campus, Jinchuan Campus and Junggar Campus.

        Focusing on engineering science, Inner Mongolia University of Technology has become a comprehensive university, embracing diverse branches of learning such as science and technology, social sciences and the humanities, economy, management, the science of law and education. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs to train the talented students. At present, there are 25 colleges (departments  or centers), 54 research institutes in the university. Furthermore, 3 first-level PhD programs, 13 second-level PhD programs, 16 first-level master programs, 85 second-level master programs and 15 specialized master programs of engineering are established in the university. The university  is also authorized to conferring MBA degree, degree of Engineering Management and master degree for university instructors. Undergraduate programs in 66 disciplines are offered. The University is also entitled to recommending excellent undergraduates for further study of master’s programs. At present, about 27,000 students are studying in the university, including 3,000 postgraduate students, 135 PhD students and 139 overseas students.

        2,076 employees are working in the university, including 1,430 professional faculties. Among all the faculties, there are 150 professors, 475 associate professors, 35 PhD student tutors, and 430 postgraduate student tutors. 74% of them have acquired PhD degree or master degrees. Amongall the faculites, more than 60 have been awarded the honor of “Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Experts” or have been specially granted bythe State Council; 3 won the prize of “Inner Mongolia Excellent Talent”; 7 became the candidates of “The Project of Excellent Talents of the New  Century” launched by the State Education Ministry, 11 became the candidates of “Inner Mongolia Talents”, 46 became the candidates of the “State  Talent Project” and “321 Talent Project of Inner Mongolia”. A number of experts from China Academy of Engineering and other scholars and scientists have been employed as either guest professors or tutors of the university.

           At present, the university has 5 featured disciplines authorized by the State Education Ministry, 9 key disciplines of Inner Mongolia, 4 major disciplines of cultivation of Inner Mongolia, 2 university key disciplines and 19 famous brand majors of Inner Mongolia, and 7 teaching demonstrative centers of Inner Mongolia are being constructed. The Laboratory of the Wind Power and Solar Power Application was listed as a key laboratory jointly supported by the State Education Ministry and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Since the “11th Five year Plan”, 1,572 research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation, and the National High Technology Research and Development Program(“863”Program) of China have been carried out. Over 49 awards at the provincial level and the state level have been given to the university, and more than 81 patents have been granted and 987 articles have been retrieved by SCI, EI, ISTP and CSSCI.

        The university has played an active role in the international exchange activities. The long term cooperative and friendly relation has been established with more than 10 famous universities, such as Purdue University, Meiji University, and University of Quebec. In 2007,the university became an authorized organization for carry out the “Chinese Government Scholarship Program” for overseas students.
           Inner Mongolia University of Technology has attached great importance to improving the quality of teaching and the work of training talented students. In 2006, the university got “excellence” in the accreditation for the undergraduate teaching launched by the State Education Ministry. During 60 years’ development, more than 100 thousand students graduated from the university. The graduates can be found in the institutions of higher education, large and medium sized enterprises, research institutes and government at various levels. The university is one of the first 32 whole-round quality education bases for the college students established by the State Education ministry. The honors the university won include “A Model University for Party Construction and Ideological and Political Work”, “A Model University for Students’ Employment”, “A Model Education Institute”, “A Model University for Ideological and Political Work”, “A Model University for Ideological and Intellectual Development”, “A Model University for Student’s Work”, “A Model University for Talent Training” and “A Model University for Harmony between ethnic Groups” etc.

          During 60 years’ development, teachers and students of the past several generations have put great efforts in constructing the university. Embracing the motto of “be learned and practical; be lofty and benevolent”, the univerisity has built up an atmosphere of “seeking and applying truth” in real life. By continuing with the education reform, improving the teaching and research quality, upgrading the quality of serving the society, the university will strive to make more contribution to the development of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and China. Under the leadership of the the Party and the government, the university will continue to advance with the time and conduct pioneering work in order to build Inner Mongolia University of Technology into one with distinct features in both teaching and research of a higher level.
